As part of the “WIYAALA UNLEASHES ELEVEN NEW SONGS IN ELEVEN WEEKS” campaign, Wiyaala has released her sixth track, “Odo Papa.”
This song marks her first venture into Hi-life music. “Odo Papa” is a love song predominantly sung in Twi but also incorporates English, Sissali, and Waale, reflecting the diverse languages of Ghana.
Wiyaala addresses the debate about language use among northern artists. While some believe singing in Twi can help northern artists gain more attention in Ghana’s southern regions, others argue that using northern languages is crucial for preserving cultural heritage. Wiyaala aims to strike a balance with “Odo Papa,” blending Twi, Ghana’s most widely spoken language, into the song’s rhythm. She hints at the possibility of exploring other Ghanaian languages, such as Fante and Ewe, in her future works.
At its core, “Odo Papa” celebrates the joy of being in love. Wiyaala hopes the song brings as much happiness to listeners as it does to her.
